Chipmate Putty (specifically Chipmate Metal Putty) is a ready-to-use, single-pack, air-curing metal repair compound used for filling gaps, dents, holes, and imperfections on metal surfaces, providing a seamless finish before painting or powder coating, ideal for industries like metal fabrication, automotive, and construction, where welding isn't feasible. It requires no mixing of two parts but uses a solvent (Chipmate SOL1) for spreading and adjusting viscosity, curing to a hard, sandable finish that can be painted or coated.
Surface Preparation & Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
- First, clean the application surface thoroughly; there should not be any traces of oil, grease, or even fine dust or loose particles on the application surface.
- If the application surface is smooth, then do some mild sanding to enhance the adhesion.
- Better use some good quality thinner & clean cloth (for final surface cleaning)
- Then, wait for 2 to 3 minutes, so that the thinner evaporates.
Application Instructions
- Open the can lid (Chipmate Body Filler 235 ®) and take a small portion (say 25 grams or so) out onto a clean metal plate.
- Add approx. 2% Curing Accelerator (red-coloured paste, supplied in a tube) and mix well.
- And apply the body filler paste into voids/gaps / over scratches as shown in the application video (within 3 to 4 minutes). Apply with pressing action to avoid air bubbles or air entrapment during body filler paste application.
- Then, wait for about 40 minutes to 60 minutes (so that the putty cures, ready for sanding).
- Use P80 - P100 for sanding and then final sanding with P180 – P220.
- Do not use water/thinner or any other liquids during or after sanding (under any circumstances). Using of above may change the properties of body filler and you may not get desired end-results after powder coating.
- After sanding, clean the job with compressed air or clean cloth and straightway powder coat the job (no usual pre-treatments prior to powder-coating at this stage).
